April 28th 2012 @ Heron Corn Mill 7pm - 11pm - £3 on the door
Open Circuit is proud to announce a new concert in a venue we know well but for some reason have never got round to putting an event on till now.
Thanks for all at Heron Corn Mill for letting us come and do our thing in the barn there, we have a slightly new format which will take the form of 3 solo sets and then a brand new trio that will have never played before in this way - so super exciting :-) There's very limited space so get there early.
So we have the following acts:
DEEP CABARET:
Deep Cabaret is Steve Lewis naked. No band, no digitalia. Just a captivating voice - fulsome and romantic one moment, edgy and distrubed the next. And guitar played as only a a drummer could - harmonically primitive and resoundingly funky.
His solo performances take you on a leftfield tour of life, death and the point of it all. There are coruscatingly moving vocal improvisations. There's his own brand of experiential poetry - viscerally involving for audiences. And then there are the darkly enlightened dance-songs and unsettlingly quiet chansons, using lyrics sampled from writers as various as Rumi, Murakami & Wallace Stevens. All deliverered in a manner that demands attention.
“Steve Lewis was stunning. He offered profound philosophical insights gleaned from texts by Jung, Don DeLilo and the label of a bottle of disinfectant”.Mike Butler City Life
“Deep Cabaret explored the shape, meaning and reception of words from accoustic, sensual, semantic and communicative angles all at the same time” Chris Gribble Arts Council

MATT KASSELL:
Regulars at Heron Corn Mill may well know Matt from his performances there as part of singer songwriter duo April Maybe May and as musical director of the play Spin Off.
You might not have seen him playing as a solo ambient musician before - exploring guitar, keyboards and voice in an improvised performance especially for Open Circuit audiences.

CLUTTER:
Clutter is the solo ambient guise of musician and sound artist Shaun Blezard. Working in improvised soundscapes for many years, using laptop, iPhone, bass and effects Shaun has been making a personal journey through the Cumbria environment and beyond using field recordings and taking inspiration from his surroundings.
He has worked with many artists including Matt Bourne, Mick Beck, Martin Archer & Susan Matthews and has written music for theatre, dance, film, installation and panto.
‘A kind of dark, swirling chamber kosmiche/ambient tangent, Clutter has created something organic & cerebral from contributed noises & sounds which he has re-arranged & processed to create something quite wonderful. I don’t particularly want to rattle on too much about this as the music is of a rich, fascinating quality, ‘Live at the Bombed Out Church‘ takes you right off on a dream-like astral plain. Does this church exist? If so, I want to go.’ 5/5 Norman Records
‘the music on this EP (Yellow Light Discarded) reminds me more of Max Richters most out there experiments or Nurse With Wound at their most ethereal. Field recordings, strings and dubbed out noises all crop up filling this 3” CD with more ideas than some full length albums. A bold, innovative release that leaves me hungry for more. It’s a pleasurable 22 minutes.’ — Was Ist Das?
